Doppler Observed Frequency
Estimate a sound-frequency shift along one line.
Your numbers
Observed frequency
Collinear classical sound model in a stationary medium; positive velocities approach. Not relativistic light Doppler.
Scenario comparison
Up to three snapshots in this tab. Loading one replaces the current inputs.
Formula
Use fₒ = fₛ(c+vₒ)/(c−vₛ). fₛ is emitted frequency, c is sound speed in the medium, vₒ is observer velocity toward the source, and vₛ is source velocity toward the observer. Velocities share a unit; both moving speeds must be subsonic.
Estimate a sound-frequency shift along one line.

Scope and limitations
Collinear classical sound model in a stationary medium; positive velocities approach. Not relativistic light Doppler.
Inputs are checked for missing values and allowed ranges. A result outside the finite numeric range is not displayed. Rounding affects display, while the calculation uses the model’s numeric precision.
Check your units and assumptions before relying on a result. Changing a label does not convert a currency or physical unit.
