Formula
Mean = sum of all values ÷ count. Median = the middle value after you sort the data; if the count even, use average of the two middle values. Mode = value wey appear most often. A data set fit get several modes, or none if every value appear once.
Example wey show the calculation
Data na 4, 8, 6, 5, 3, 8, 9. After sorting, na 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 9. Sum = 43, count = 7, so mean = 43 ÷ 7 = 6.14. The middle (4th) value na 6, so median na 6. Value 8 appear twice, more than any other, so mode na 8. Range = 9 − 3 = 6.
Where e fit work and limits
These measures dey describe only the data wey you enter, no be larger population. Dem alone no show how the data spread; use range or standard deviation for that. Outliers dey pull the mean: one very large value fit raise am even if most values small. Median fit summarize better for that case. Mode useful when repeated values make sense. For continuous measurements, exact repeats rare, so mode fit no dey.
Questions wey people dey ask often
Mean or median: which one I suppose report?
Use mean when data roughly symmetric. Use median when data skewed or get outliers. Income na common example: few very high incomes fit raise the mean far above wetin ordinary person earn, so reports usually use median income as their main figure.
Wetin if two values dey for the middle?
If the count even, median na average of the two middle values. For 2, 4, 7, 9, median na (4 + 7) ÷ 2 = 5.50.
Mode fit pass one?
Yes. If two values tie for highest frequency, the data na bimodal and both na modes. This page dey list all the values wey tie.
Wetin "no mode" mean?
Every value appear exactly once, so no value appear most often. This one common for continuous measurements like heights wey you record to the millimetre.
I need arrange the data in order first?
No. We dey sort am for you. Median and sorted list go come from any order wey you paste.
I must use commas?
No. Commas, spaces and line breaks all dey separate values, so you fit paste spreadsheet columns directly.
