Formula

GPA = sum of (grade points × course credits) ÷ total credits. Each course is weighted by its credits, so a 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit course.

Worked example

Grades 3.7 (3 credits), 3.3 (3 credits), 4.0 (4 credits) and 3.0 (2 credits): points are 11.1 + 9.9 + 16.0 + 6.0 = 43.0, over 12 credits, so GPA = 43.0 ÷ 12 = 3.5833. Use Reset example above to reproduce this result, then replace the values with your own.

Scope and limitations

This page uses grade points you enter on a 4.0 scale; it does not convert letter grades, because schools use different conversions. It does not apply honours/AP weighting, repeated-course replacement, or pass/fail rules — apply your institution's policy before entering grade points. A course left blank or with 0 credits is excluded. Display is rounded to 4 decimal places.

FAQ

How do I enter a letter grade?

Convert it using your school's scale first (for example, A = 4.0, B = 3.0 on many 4.0 scales), then enter the resulting grade points. This page does not guess the conversion.

Why is GPA credit-weighted?

A course worth more credits represents more work, so its grade counts proportionally more. A simple average of grades would give a 2-credit and a 4-credit course equal weight, which is not how GPA works.

What if I have more than four courses?

Combine this calculation across all courses: GPA is still total points ÷ total credits. Enter four at a time and combine, or add the totals from separate runs.

What happens to a blank course?

It is ignored entirely — it adds neither points nor credits.

Does this handle weighted (honours/AP) GPA?

Only if you enter already-weighted grade points. The page itself applies no extra weighting.
