Pace bars are labels, not comparisons: a mile is longer than a kilometre, so the per-mile time is always larger at the same speed.
Total time = hours × 3,600 + minutes × 60 + seconds. Pace per kilometre = total time ÷ distance (km). Pace per mile = pace per kilometre × 1.609344. Speed = distance ÷ total hours.
Distance 10 km, finish time 50 minutes (3,000 seconds): pace = 3,000 ÷ 10 = 300 seconds = 5:00 /km. Per mile that is 300 × 1.609344 = 483 seconds = 8:03 /mile. Speed = 10 ÷ (3,000 ÷ 3,600) = 12.0 km/h (7.46 mph). At the same pace, 5 km takes 25:00 and a marathon takes 3:30:59. Use Reset example above to reproduce this result.
The result is a single average over the whole distance: it assumes perfectly even pacing and ignores pauses, terrain, weather, elevation, and GPS measurement error, all of which make real splits vary. Projected times for other distances assume the same pace can be held, which becomes less realistic as distance grows.
Because a mile (1.609344 km) is longer than a kilometre, so it takes proportionally longer at the same speed.
No. It divides total elapsed time by distance, so pauses and terrain are averaged into the single pace figure.
Only as an arithmetic projection: holding a 10 km pace for 42.195 km is much harder than holding it for 10 km, so treat projections as reference numbers.
Enter them as minutes instead — the seconds field is capped at 59, matching how times are normally written.

Convert first: divide miles by 0.621371 to get kilometres, or multiply kilometres by 0.621371 to go the other way.
