Life Single Point of Failure
Trace how a failed resource interrupts dependent activities and compare one backup at a time.
Your numbers
Affected resources
Deterministic what-if graph, not a failure probability estimate. Every named dependency is required. Loss rates must represent separate losses to avoid counting the same revenue twice. Backups bypass that resource’s dependencies at the entered recovery time; each comparison activates one backup only.
Scenario comparison
Up to three snapshots in this tab. Loading one replaces the current inputs.
Formula
For an affected downstream resource, use dᵢ = max(dⱼ)+rᵢ over its dependencies. d is interruption hours and r is restart delay; the initial failure uses direct repair time. A backup can shorten one interruption. Total modeled loss is L = Σ(ℓᵢdᵢ)+B, where ℓ is independent hourly loss and B is activated backup cost.

Scope and limitations

Backups bypass that resource’s dependencies at the entered recovery time; each comparison activates one backup only.
Inputs are checked for missing values and allowed ranges. A result outside the finite numeric range is not displayed. Rounding affects display, while the calculation uses the model’s numeric precision.
Check your units and assumptions before relying on a result. Changing a label does not convert a currency or physical unit.
