Coefficient of Variation
Compare sample standard deviation with a positive mean.
Your numbers
Coefficient of variation
Not suitable for arbitrary zero scales such as Celsius temperatures or means close to zero.
Scenario comparison
Up to three snapshots in this tab. Loading one replaces the current inputs.
Formula
Use CV = 100s/μ. s is sample standard deviation and μ is the positive arithmetic mean of the entered nonnegative observations. The coefficient of variation is displayed as a percentage.
Compare sample standard deviation with a positive mean.
Worked example
- Nonnegative observations
- 10, 20, 30
- Coefficient of variation
- 50 %
- Sample standard deviation

Scope and limitations
Not suitable for arbitrary zero scales such as Celsius temperatures or means close to zero.
Inputs are checked for missing values and allowed ranges. A result outside the finite numeric range is not displayed. Rounding affects display, while the calculation uses the model’s numeric precision.
Check your units and assumptions before relying on a result. Changing a label does not convert a currency or physical unit.
