Voltage Divider
Find unloaded output voltage across the lower divider resistor.
Your numbers
Unloaded output voltage
Assumes no output load. A load changes the lower equivalent resistance and output.
Scenario comparison
Up to three snapshots in this tab. Loading one replaces the current inputs.
Formula
Use Vₒ = VᵢR₂/(R₁+R₂). Vᵢ is input voltage, R₁ is the upper resistor, and R₂ is the lower resistor in the same resistance unit. Output Vₒ is measured across the lower resistor without a load.
Find unloaded output voltage across the lower divider resistor.
Worked example
- Input voltage (V)
- 12
- Upper resistor R1 (Ω)
- 1000
- Lower resistor R2 (Ω)
- 2000
- Unloaded output voltage
- 8 V
Scope and limitations
Assumes no output load. A load changes the lower equivalent resistance and output.
Inputs are checked for missing values and allowed ranges. A result outside the finite numeric range is not displayed. Rounding affects display, while the calculation uses the model’s numeric precision.
Check your units and assumptions before relying on a result. Changing a label does not convert a currency or physical unit.
