Bars are scaled to the annual fee. Value received is what your uses would otherwise have cost; waste is the rest of the fee plus the idle-month penalty.

Same monthly fee, alternative price and idle months; only the use frequency changes. The idle-month penalty stays in every row.
Estimate = max(monthly fee × 12 − uses per month × 12 × alternative price, 0) + idle months × monthly fee.
Monthly fee 68, 2 uses per month, alternative price 12 per use, 4 idle months: annual fee = 68 × 12 = 816.00; value received = 2 × 12 × 12 = 288.00; base waste = max(816.00 − 288.00, 0) = 528.00; idle penalty = 4 × 68 = 272.00; estimated waste = 528.00 + 272.00 = 800.00. These are example inputs, not prices for any real service.
The idle-month term is an additional scenario penalty and may overlap with the annual comparison: idle months are already partly reflected in a low uses-per-month average, so the total can overstate waste if you count the same idle period twice. Do not treat the result as an exact amount recoverable by cancelling — cancellation may lose bundled benefits, and some subscriptions cannot be paused month by month.
Estimate = max(monthly fee × 12 − uses per month × 12 × alternative price, 0) + idle months × monthly fee.
What one use would cost you without the subscription — for example, a single rental, ticket or pay-as-you-go session. It converts uses into a money value you can compare with the fee.
To model stretches where you pay but do not use the service at all, such as holidays or off-seasons. It is a scenario input, not a measured fact.
Yes. The idle-month term may overlap with the annual comparison, since idle months already lower your average uses. Read the scope note above before acting on the figure.
Not necessarily. You may lose bundled benefits, face rejoining fees, or find the alternative price has changed. The figure is an estimate of waste, not a guaranteed saving.
