Paint for coats compared with waste allowance
The bars dey use the larger amount as their scale. Waste na extra paint on top of the exact coats calculation.
Paint wey you need for different numbers of coats
| Coats of paint | Value wey e get |

Area, coverage and waste allowance remain the same; na only the number of coats dey change.
Formula
Paint per coat = area ÷ coverage per litre. Paint for all coats = area × coats ÷ coverage per litre. Paint required = paint for all coats × (1 + waste rate). Na the coverage wey you enter we dey use.
Example wey show the calculation
Area na 120 m², 2 coats, coverage na 10 m²/L: paint per coat = 120 ÷ 10 = 12 L, so 2 coats need 24 L. At 10% waste allowance, waste = 24 × 0.10 = 2.4 L, giving 26.4 L required. Na example defaults be these. Replace dem with your own area and the coverage wey your paint label show.
Where e fit work and limits
Coverage dey vary with how porous the surface be, primer, application method (brush, roller or spray), colour change and manufacturer rate. Use coverage from your paint own data sheet. If you no dey paint doors, windows or trim, remove their area yourself. We no assume can size or price. Divide the result by your can size to find how many cans you need.
Questions wey people dey ask often
How this paint calculator dey work?
Paint required = area × coats ÷ coverage per litre × (1 + waste rate). Na your own inputs we dey use; nothing here na market average.
I suppose count primer as one coat?
Only if primer na the same product with the same coverage. Otherwise, calculate primer separately with its own coverage rate.
Why paint coverage dey vary plenty?
Porous surfaces or surfaces without primer dey absorb more paint. Changing dark colour to light colour dey need more coats. Spray dey lose more paint to overspray than roller.
How many cans I need?
Divide required litres by the size of can wey you dey buy, then round up. Can sizes differ by product and region, so no fixed can size dey inside this page.
I suppose remove doors and windows from the area?
Yes, if you no dey paint dem. Measure wall area, then remove area of the openings wey you go leave unpainted.
CalcMintly dey store values wey I enter?
No. This calculation dey run locally inside your browser; values wey you enter no dey reach any CalcMintly database.
