How the result break down
| Step | Value wey e get |
|---|---|
| Before simplification | — |
| Greatest common divisor | — |
| Answer wey don simplify | — |
| Decimal value | — |
| Mixed number | — |
Mixed number go show only when result na improper fraction (|numerator| > denominator). Whole-number result go show like 2.
Formula
To add: a/b + c/d = (ad + bc) / bd. To subtract: a/b − c/d = (ad − bc) / bd. To multiply: a/b × c/d = ac / bd. To divide: a/b ÷ c/d = ad / bc. For each one, divide the new numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD) to simplify am. Keep any minus sign for the numerator.
Example wey show the calculation
1/2 + 1/3 = (1×3 + 1×2) / (2×3) = 5/6. GCD of 5 and 6 na 1, so 5/6 already simplest, and decimal value na 0.833333… (shown as 0.8333). Use Reset example above to reproduce this result, then replace values with your own.
Where e fit work and limits
Inputs fit whole numbers, negatives, or finite decimals. Decimal values converted to base-10 fractions before exact integer arithmetic and simplification. Browser read inputs as JavaScript numbers, so digits beyond numeric precision no fit recover. Denominators must not be zero, and division also require nonzero second numerator. Results rounded to 4 decimal places for display only; underlying fraction exact for integer inputs.
Questions wey people dey ask often
Wetin go happen if denominator na zero?
We no go show answer. Fraction wey denominator na zero no get defined value, so the page go ask for nonzero denominator instead of making up a number.
How we take simplify the answer?
We dey use greatest common divisor. For example, divide 4/6 by GCD 2 to get 2/3. We dey keep the sign for the numerator, so −1/2 and 1/−2 go both show as −1/2.
Why the decimal dey repeat sometimes?
Fractions such as 1/3 no get exact finite decimal. Decimal shown rounded to 4 places (0.3333); fraction itself, 1/3, na exact answer.
I fit use negative fractions?
Yes. Enter negative numerator or denominator. We go arrange the result so the denominator remain positive.
Wetin be mixed number?
Na whole-number part plus fraction. For example, 7/3 = 2 1/3. We dey show am for improper fractions; proper fractions and whole numbers go remain as dem be.
