Converters
Converter for data storage units
Convert data size between bytes, KB, MB, GB and TB with base 1024 or base 1000; every unit go show side by side.
Add to workspaceChoices for this device
Na only the units wey you choose this browser go remember. E no save numbers or other inputs. E go use them for new examples wey you open alone; shared links and workspace cards go keep their own choices.

All units for this value
| Unit | Value wey e get |

All five units dey describe the same amount of data for the base wey you choose. If you change the base, every row go change.
Formula
Bytes = value × basesource level; target value = bytes ÷ basetarget level, where levels na B=0, KB=1, MB=2, GB=3, TB=4.
| Unit | Level | Bytes for base 1024 | Bytes for base 1000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| B | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| KB | 1 | 1,024 | 1,000 |
| MB | 2 | 1,048,576 | 1,000,000 |
| GB | 3 | 1,073,741,824 | 1,000,000,000 |
| TB | 4 | 1,099,511,627,776 | 1,000,000,000,000 |
Strictly, KiB/MiB/GiB na base-1024 units and KB/MB/GB na base-1000 SI units. In practice many operating systems label base-1024 sizes as KB/MB/GB; this page follow that common labelling and let you switch base explicitly instead of hiding difference.
Example wey show the calculation
1 GB at base 1024 = 1 × 1024 = 1,024 MB, = 1,024 × 1,024 = 1,048,576 KB, = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Same 1 GB at base 1000 = 1,000 MB exactly. 2.5 TB drive at base 1024 na 2.5 × 1,024 = 2,560 GB.
Where e fit work and limits
We no accept negative sizes. The displayed values dey round to 6 decimal places, but we no round the calculation underneath. We no model formatted drive capacity, filesystem overhead or the KiB-vs-KB naming difference; this page only dey convert the number wey you enter.
Questions wey people dey ask often
Make I use base 1024 abi 1000?
Use 1000 for SI or manufacturer specifications: a drive wey dem sell as 1 TB usually mean 10^12 bytes. Use 1024 for sizes wey many operating systems report. If you no sure, check your source; the gap fit reach about 10% for TB sizes.
Wetin be difference between GB and GiB?
GiB unambiguously base 1024 (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes); GB na SI base-1000 unit. Many tools write GB when they mean GiB, na why this page make base explicit choice.
Why my 1 TB drive dey show less than 1 TB?
Part of the reason na this base difference: 10^12 bytes = 931.32 GiB for base 1024. Filesystem overhead dey account for the remaining difference.
How many MB dey inside one GB?
1,024 MB at base 1024, or 1,000 MB at base 1000 — answer depend on base, so always state am.
This tool fit handle bits?
No — na only bytes. 1 byte = 8 bits; first convert bits to bytes (divide by 8), then enter dat value.
