Where your BMI fall
Adult categories: underweight below 18.5; healthy weight from 18.5 to less than 25; overweight from 25 to less than 30; obesity from 30. Di bar use scale of 40.
Formula
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). BMI Prime = BMI ÷ 25. Ponderal Index = weight (kg) ÷ height³ (m³). Di reference weight interval start at 18.5 × height² and end just below 25 × height². Thresholds wey show don round; di upper threshold no count inside.
Example wey show the calculation
At 175 cm and 72.6 kg: BMI = 72.6 ÷ 1.75² ≈ 23.7, BMI Prime ≈ 0.95, and Ponderal Index ≈ 13.5 kg/m³. Di reference weight thresholds na 18.5 × 1.75² = 56.65625 kg and 25 × 1.75² = 76.5625 kg, with di upper threshold excluded. After rounding for display: 56.7–<76.6 kg. Select metric units and enter these values to reproduce di example.
Where e fit work and limits
Di CDC categories wey we use here apply to adults aged 20 and older. BMI na screening measure, no be diagnosis or direct body-fat measurement. E no separate muscle from fat or account for pregnancy and individual health situations. Children and teenagers need assessment wey follow age and sex. Classification use BMI before rounding, even if di displayed number round reach one boundary.
