Bars are scaled to the larger of the two amounts. Waste is the extra paint on top of the exact coats calculation.

Same area, coverage and waste allowance; only the coat count changes.
Paint per coat = area ÷ coverage per litre. Paint for all coats = area × coats ÷ coverage per litre. Paint required = paint for all coats × (1 + waste rate).
Area 120 m², 2 coats, coverage 10 m²/L: paint per coat = 120 ÷ 10 = 12 L, so 2 coats need 24 L. At a 10% waste allowance, waste = 24 × 0.10 = 2.4 L, giving 26.4 L required. These are the example defaults above; replace them with your own area and the coverage printed on your paint.
Coverage varies with surface porosity, primer, application method (brush, roller, spray), colour change and the manufacturer's stated rate — the coverage you enter should come from your paint's own data sheet. Doors, windows and trim must be subtracted from the area yourself if you do not intend to paint them. No can size or price is assumed: divide the result by your can size to get the number of cans.
Paint required = area × coats ÷ coverage per litre × (1 + waste rate). Every input is yours; nothing here is a market average.
Only if the primer is the same product at the same coverage. Otherwise calculate primer separately with its own coverage rate.
Porous or unprimed surfaces absorb more paint, dark-to-light colour changes need more coats, and spray application loses more to overspray than a roller does.
Divide the required litres by the size of the can you buy and round up. Can sizes differ by product and region, so no can size is built into this page.
Yes, if you are not painting them. Measure the wall area, then subtract the area of openings you will leave unpainted.
No. This calculation runs locally in your browser and the values you enter are not sent to a CalcMintly database.
