Independent Events Probability
Multiply probabilities of independent events and find the complement.
Your numbers
Probability all occur
Multiplication requires independence. Related events need a joint or conditional model.
Scenario comparison
Up to three snapshots in this tab. Loading one replaces the current inputs.
Formula
For independent events, use P = ∏pᵢ for all events occurring and 1−P for not all occurring. pᵢ are entered probability fractions. The complement means at least one event fails, not that every event fails.
Multiply probabilities of independent events and find the complement.
Worked example
- Probabilities from 0 to 1
- 0.5, 0.2, 0.8
- Probability all occur
- 8 %
- Probability at least one fails
- 92 %
Scope and limitations
Multiplication requires independence. Related events need a joint or conditional model.
Inputs are checked for missing values and allowed ranges. A result outside the finite numeric range is not displayed. Rounding affects display, while the calculation uses the model’s numeric precision.
Check your units and assumptions before relying on a result. Changing a label does not convert a currency or physical unit.
