Breakdown

Value

Fuel cost vs tolls and parking

Bars are scaled to the larger of the two costs. Tolls and parking are entered as one combined figure.

Cost at different trip distances

DistanceValue

Same fuel economy and fuel price, with the same tolls and parking figure at every distance, so the fuel component is what changes.

Formula

Fuel used = distance ÷ 100 × litres per 100 km. Fuel cost = fuel used × price per litre. Trip cost = fuel cost + tolls and parking.

Worked example

Distance 500 km, economy 7.5 L/100 km, price 8 per litre, tolls and parking 100: fuel used = 500 ÷ 100 × 7.5 = 37.5 L, fuel cost = 37.50 × 8 = 300.00, trip cost = 300.00 + 100 = 400.00, or 0.80 per km. The fuel price here is only the example default — enter the price you actually expect to pay.

Scope and limitations

Vehicle depreciation, maintenance, insurance, traffic, elevation and fuel-price changes along the route are excluded. Fuel economy is treated as constant, although real consumption varies with speed, load, weather and driving style. Tolls and parking are a single combined input: add both together before entering. No fuel price is presented as a market average.

FAQ

How does the fuel cost calculator work?

Trip cost = distance ÷ 100 × litres per 100 km × price per litre + tolls and parking.

What fuel price should I enter?

The price you expect to pay on the route, in the same currency as the result you want. Prices vary by station and region, so the example default is only a placeholder.

What about a return trip?

Double the distance before entering it, or run the calculation once and double the fuel component. Tolls and parking for the return leg go in the same combined field.

Why is my real fuel use higher than this?

Economy figures are usually measured in standard conditions. City traffic, heavy loads, roof boxes, cold weather and high speeds all raise consumption.

Does this cover electric vehicles?

No. This is a liquid-fuel calculation in litres per 100 km. An EV needs an energy-consumption figure in kWh per 100 km and an electricity price instead.

Does CalcMintly store my inputs?

No. This calculation runs locally in your browser and the values you enter are not sent to a CalcMintly database.
